The Leadership of the Geese
A few years ago CCE 4522 embraced a leadership philosophy inspired by the geese. Yes, geese. These incredible birds teach us profound lessons about teamwork, resilience, and shared leadership—principles that align perfectly with our mission and vision.
First, the Power of Togetherness
Did you know that when geese fly in a V-formation, their combined effort increases their flying range by 71% compared to flying solo? Each flap of their wings creates an uplift for the birds that follow. Similarly, when we work together—faculty, staff, administration, and students—we create an environment of shared strength, lifting one another to reach greater heights than we ever could alone. This spring, let’s remember that our collective efforts amplify our impact. Remember unions are good for all labor, very often items negotiated by CCE eventually become benefits enjoyed by all employees.
Second, Support Makes Us Thrive
When a goose falls out of formation, it immediately feels the drag of going alone and quickly returns to the group to benefit from the shared momentum. In our roles, whether teaching, advising, or supporting behind the scenes, we all need a team to succeed. At CCE, we remain committed to providing that support system for you because when one of us thrives, we all do. CCE has a good & welfare system. That helps everyone thrive.
Third, Innovation through Shared Leadership
Geese rotate leadership. When the lead bird tires, another steps up to take the point position. This ensures that no single bird bears the burden alone. Likewise, innovation thrives in an environment where leadership is shared, and ideas flow from all levels. At CCE, we value diverse voices and insights, knowing they are the key to driving the creative solutions that will propel us forward. You will see CCE’s leadership throughout shared governance committees, advocating for more jobs, more classes and justice for all.
Fourth, Encouragement Fuels Success
Geese honk to encourage each other to keep up their speed. CCE encourages you to lift each other up with words of support and recognition. Encouragement costs nothing, but its impact is priceless. It’s what keeps us moving forward when the path gets tough. As we brace for changes in the Educational System, we will need to honk at each other so that we can keep up our resolution to continue to serve our community with integrity and equity.
Finally, Standing Together in Challenges
When a goose is sick or injured, two others drop out of formation to stay with it until it recovers or passes. They never leave one of their own behind. This commitment to each other is what defines true community. As we tackle the challenges ahead, let’s remember to stand together—offering help, patience, and kindness to those in need.
